AKLA RESTAURANT
BACALHAU IN LISBON

Rua Castilho
Lisboa, Portugal

Bacalhau is the Portugese word for cod and is the national dish of Portugal.  Bacalhau is a dried and salted cod that is often served with rice or potatoes and very popular during the holiday season. I'd never had bacalhau before, so on a trip to Lisbon decided I wanted to try.  When I asked the concierge the best place to go for bacalhau all I had to do was turn around.  Akla Restaurant is located downstairs of the InterContinental Hotel in Lisbon.  I have to say the dining experience was one of the best.  I often dine alone and even in some of the best restaurants when you dine alone you feel sort of forgotten.  The staff was very friendly and the service outstanding.  But the star for me was the bacalhau!!!!  Oh my gosh!  The flavors of the fish and the garlic and olive oil!!!!!  I have yet to find another fish dish on this level.  Definitely a must when in Lisbon.
